Taconic Opera’s 26th Season Begins: Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos

This event has already taken place.Oct. 22, 2–5pm.
Wide range $74-$12; senior + group discounts

Taconic Opera, celebrating its 26th Season, is opening its 2022-23 season with a full production of its first opera from the German repertoire: Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos.   Strauss also composed other famous and popular operas like Salome, Elektra and Der Rosenkavalier.  Ariadne will be performed in German with English supertitles above the stage to further enhance the entire experience.

There are four very good reasons not to miss this opportunity: Strauss’ score is gorgeous; German operas are not all 3+hours long; it is rarely performed outside of large opera houses; and, it’s both very touching AND very funny!

The production will be fully staged with professional, experienced lead singers and orchestra, and Maestro Jun Nakabayashi looks forward to providing the downbeat. Generous donations have made it possible to offer some visual delights as well.

The story: a theater manages to book two different music groups to perform on the same day and during the same hours. The problem: one group is doing a serious dramatic opera and the other is performing the equivalent of a Broadway comedy. The results: pure fun intermixed with some very thoughtful moments.

The theater is handicap-accessible and newly renovated inside.  All seats provide excellent viewing and acoustics.
