September 11th Sunrise Memorial Service
Long Islanders are invited to mark the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with a sunrise memorial service on the beach at Town Park Point Lookout. At the ceremony, we will not only remember the victims from that terrible day, but also the thousands of heroic first responders and rescue workers who have lost their lives in the years since as a result of their courageous service at Ground Zero. We will also honor the brave men and women who went to war in the aftermath of the attacks and gave their lives to defend our nation and freedoms. The Town of Hempstead 9/11 Memorial Park was constructed in a manner that allows residents to pay their respects in their own way and includes a Memorial Wall with the names of the victims prominently displayed at the site. The memorial also includes a 30-foot steel beam from the wreckage of the Twin Towers, a Memorial Table, and beautiful flowers and plantings.
