(mostly) TRUE THINGS “Sucker For Love” Stories

(mostly) TRUE THINGS is a game wrapped in a true storytelling show. In honor of Valentine’s Day, this show will focus on how what we do for love. A super fun line-up of talented storytellers will tell about a time they went above and beyond because of love – any kind of love, not just romantic love – and how it turned out. All but one of the stories have subtle little lies woven into them. The audience gets to question the storytellers, then votes for the person they think told it with no lies at all. There are prizes involved, if you can believe a thing like that.

In this show the audience will also vote for the biggest “sucker for love” among the stories, and that performer gets a prize too.

She created (mostly) TRUE THINGS in 2013 and grew the show into an ongoing event on Long Island that is now performed in locations around the country and for organizations. Stories in this show by:

Marisa Cohen is a relationship scientist, marriage and family therapist, college professor, and founder of Embracing Change Marriage and Family Therapy which provides therapeutic services to individuals, couples, and families. Her book From First Kiss to Forever: A Scientific Approach to Love relates relationship science research to everyday experiences and real relationship issues confronted by couples. She has appeared at 92nd Street Y, Strand Bookstore, the New York Hall of Science, TEDx , on segments for Newsweek and CNN, and is the subject of a piece focusing on her work, which aired on BRIC TV.

Rita Rigano is a storyteller, educator, and improviser. She has performed stories – solo and with a troupe – around the metropolitan area. Favorite venues – besides this one – are QED in Astoria and Caveat in Manhattan. Rita is Adjunct Faculty at Yeshiva University, teaching Presentation Skills and Business Communication. She was a regular on the long-running Sunday Night Improv Jam at Stand Up NY.

Mary Theresa Archbold is an actress, dancer and improviser, who has a recurring role on Law & Order SVU, was in the cast of the Pulitzer Prize winning off-Broadway play Cost Of Living, and has been featured on RISK! live show and podcast, This American Life, The MOTH podcast, as well as shows all over the country.

Joey Novick is an attorney, comedian, improviser and applied improviser who has performed in comedy clubs and shows across the country, appeared on MTV, Comedy Central and Rascal’s Comedy Hour, opened in concert at comedy clubs for Jerry Seinfeld, Robert Klein, David Brenner, Lewis Black, and Paul Reiser. As an improviser, he studied with Chicago’s famed ‘Second City’ improvisational theater director and improv guru, Del Close, performed onstage with Robin Williams and other improv greats, and integrates his comedy/improv expertise with professional training for major Fortune 500 corporations including AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, MetLife and Merrill Lynch. Joey has been a keynote presenter on humor for the National League of Cities, National Association of County Organizations, and many state leagues of municipalities.
