Taking the E Train: Magical Harlem

October 28, 3pm.
Free

The Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) is set to host the staged reading of Taking the E Train: Magical Harlem, penned by Lapacazo Magrira Sandoval and Rahul Tiwari under the supervision of theater department chair, Mercedes White and made possible, in part, with the support of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.  Taking The E Train: Magical Harlem centers on 12-year-old Harlem native, Diego Martinez. Raised by his enigmatic Abuela, this Afro-Mexican kid confronts a life-defining choice. He must either embrace his destiny as part of a powerful, magical family entrusted with safeguarding a hidden treasure within Harlem or remain an ordinary kid. The stakes: Protecting the community from an unrelenting wave of monsters with a sinister agenda to “magically gentrify” or step into his family’s legacy and lead a new generation of monster hunters. Breathe and believe. Magic is real and it’s protected by a Martinez!
